[et_pb_section admin_label="section"][et_pb_row admin_label="row"][et_pb_column type="4_4"][et_pb_text admin_label="Text"] You Guys!! WHY AM I YELLING? is officially a website!! a dot com! (I realize this means absolutely nothing, but I'm excited none the less).
So if you know me, you know that I'm in the middle of a major life change and on a crazy journey down a twisty path to a new career. First I thought it would be cool to stay at home for a while, milk my severance money and hang around the neighborhood while the kids were in school. That lasted all of 5 minutes and now I'm climbing the walls out of complete boredom. I guess this means I was not built for this full time stay at home gig. For the last 2 weeks I've submerged myself in career transition research which has been interesting, enlightening and quite frankly scary as all hell. The last time I had to look for a job (and by look for a job I mean actually go out and fly blind by FAXING or MAILING resumes and cover letters to prospective employers), I believe it was 1997. Every other job I've ever gotten has been through who I knew which apparently is the only way to go these days.
My problem is that I really am struggling with trying to decide what to do with my career path. All the self assessment tests are pointing to charitable organizations which intrigues me, because I'm so interested in that type of work. I want my next move to be one that I can grow with and that will make me feel satisfied that I'm contributing something to this world. I was not getting that in my last job. Work life balance is something I'm hearing a lot about when I attend these webinars to talk to other people in my similar situation, looking for a change. So with that I've decided to apply to any and all positions out there that sound like something I would be interested in. Who knows where I'll end up, who knows if it will be my last stop on the career train, I mean my last job lasted 16 years (through merger and acquisition), but I know this...it's out there that dream job I just have to put in the work to find it!
If you've recently had a career change, share your story with me...I can use all the help I can get! Tips, suggestions, recommendations, tools you used, whatever!! Every little bit helps, right? Operation new job is in full effect starting yesterday!!
